Hi, thisthis is SiyaSiya
I am a UI/UX designer who also happens to be a dog parent to a Goldendoodle puppy. If you’re in a similar situation, you may be able to relate. Training a puppy is just as challenging as educating a child, especially since we don’t speak the same language as dogs, and we never will. However, we can communicate through body language, observe their behavior with wise eyes, and use tools like a leash and treats to guide them. This may sound familiar to fellow UI/UX designers, as the products or services we design are intangible and cannot speak to users directly. However, we have various tools at our disposal to research, observe, design, and guide users towards achieving their goals.
Jingle Bells in the Violin
Violin was the first instrument I learned when I was in grade one. Because I thought the violin was the guitar. Knowing how to play guitar was a cool thing in 2000. Even a kid like me at the age of eight knew how cool it was. My violin instructor liked me a lot and encouraged me to perform solely on stage, and Jingle Bells was the first song I learned. I forget how to play the violin now, but it is still my favourite instrument. Hopefully, when I have time, I can pick it up soon.
Badminton is life
I played badminton frequently during high school and competed in multiple tournaments. As an athlete, I experienced both highs and lows, winning and losing games. Through it all, I learned how to develop mental strength, discipline, and the perseverance necessary for achieving success.
Learn from Starbucks
My career story began when I worked as a barista at Starbucks. This role provided me with the opportunity to interact with people from diverse backgrounds. As a result of my time at Starbucks, I became adept at remembering customers and their preferred drinks, communication styles, and other preferences. This skill helped me to develop greater empathy for others.
Interior Design
Becoming an interior designer was my first option in college, so I spent two years taking an interior design program at BCIT. This experience further shaped my human-centered mindset to put myself into clients' shoes and design for them regardless of my preferred style.
Where journey begin
It was a coincidence that I stumbled upon the UI/UX industry. A friend asked me to design an app for them, and although I had only self-taught graphic design at that point and was unfamiliar with UI/UX, I accepted the offer because the pay was reasonable. During the project's kickoff meeting, which included myself, a product manager, and a full-stack developer, they discussed information architecture, a term that was new to me. Although I was only tasked with designing three banners, four icons, and a logo, the meeting was mind-blowing, and I became excited about the project. Since then, I have been self-teaching UI/UX design and have been eager to join a college program to meet other like-minded individuals.
